🌞 June Awakening: Welcome Summer, Holistically

June 2025 Newsletter

You step outside and summer greets you like an old friend—with a burst of warmth on your shoulders, the scent of sunscreen and fresh-cut grass, and that nostalgic hum of cicadas rising like nature’s lullaby. The air is thick with possibility and peppered with childhood memories—popsicles melting too fast, bare feet on hot pavement, and sprinkler laughter echoing down the street.

It reminds me of those long, golden evenings when I was a child, racing my bike down the block with no destination except joy. We’d fill jars with fireflies, build forts from beach towels, and pretend the hose was a waterfall from some distant jungle. One year, my brother and I convinced our parents to let us camp in the backyard. We roasted marshmallows over a makeshift firepit and swore we heard a bear (it was definitely just the neighbor’s cat). That night, as we lay in our sleeping bags watching the stars blink awake, I remember thinking, “This is what happiness feels like.”

Summer does that. It pulls us back to simple pleasures and reminds us that magic still exists—not in things, but in moments. It whispers, “Slow down. Laugh more. Be here.”

This isn’t just a new month—it’s a seasonal invitation. To slow down. To play. To breathe deeper. To nourish lighter.

Summer has a rhythm, and it’s softer than hustle. It’s a call to embrace the now—through sunshine, fresh food, and soul-deep rest. To truly welcome summer holistically, consider it your chance to reset. Start with your senses:

  • Feel the sun on your face each morning. Spend 10 minutes outside barefoot (earthing) while sipping herbal tea. Let it ground you.
  • Breathe intentionally. Try the 4-7-8 breathing technique in a shady spot outdoors. Four seconds in, hold for seven, exhale for eight. Let the tension melt.
  • Hydrate deeply. Not just with water—infuse it with cucumber, mint, lemon, or berries. Keep a glass pitcher in the fridge for easy sipping.

During the summer, our hydration needs increase. On average, adults should aim for at least half their body weight in ounces of water per day. Add more if you’re sweating, exercising, or spending time in the sun. Signs of dehydration include fatigue, dry lips or skin, headaches, dizziness, and dark yellow urine. Combat these symptoms with water-rich foods like watermelon and cucumbers, and beverages like herbal iced teas or coconut water.

Once you’re well-hydrated and grounded in the season, it’s time to invite joy through nourishment—and the best place to start is with your plate.

🍉 The Holistic Table: Summer on a Fork

June brings a bounty of foods that don’t just nourish—they cool, refresh, and hydrate. Think crunch. Think color. Think garden-fresh everything.

Hydrating Summer Superstars:

  • Cucumbers (95% water): Cooling, alkalizing, and great for skin.
  • Watermelon (92% water): Full of antioxidants like lycopene and vitamin C.
  • Tomatoes (94% water): Rich in electrolytes and flavor.
  • Zucchini & Yellow Squash: Light, easy to digest, and great grilled or spiralized.
  • Mint & Basil: Not just flavorful—these herbs calm digestion and bring balance.

These foods don’t just hydrate your body—they help you eat your water, support kidney function, and reduce inflammation. They’re also kid-friendly, bright, and full of texture, making them perfect for those busy, barefoot, sunshine-drenched days.

🌿 Summer Prep Bowl Recipe: Garden Glow Bowl

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cooked farro or quinoa
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cup cucumber, diced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta
  • Handful of fresh basil and mint, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lemon + 1 tbsp olive oil + pinch of sea salt

Why it works: Light but satisfying. Full of hydrating veggies, plant-based protein, and minerals. The fresh herbs offer cooling relief to your digestive and nervous system—perfect for warm days when heavy meals feel too much.

🍓 Holistic Dessert: Strawberry Lemon Bliss Bites

Sometimes the best part of summer is the sweetness—and it doesn’t have to come from sugar-laden treats. These Strawberry Lemon Bliss Bites are the perfect refreshing dessert: light, naturally sweet, and packed with nutrients.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp almond flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp honey (optional)

Instructions: Blend all ingredients in a food processor until a dough forms. Roll into small balls and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

Why it works: These bites are rich in fiber, vitamin C, and healthy fats. The strawberries support skin health and immunity, the coconut adds texture and hydration, and the lemon offers a burst of flavor and natural detoxifying properties. They’re perfect for kids, guests, or sneaking a moment of sweetness just for yourself.

Pair these with an outdoor picnic, a good book, or an after-dinner walk. And if you’re not going far this season, the next section will help you bring the vacation vibe home.

🐾 The Holistic Pet Corner: Asgard’s Backyard Patrol

Let’s talk about Asgard, our son’s loyal golden doodle. He’s more than just a family dog—he’s a living, breathing embodiment of love and light. With his shaggy curls, soulful eyes, and comical clumsiness, Asgard is both protector and playmate. He’s the kind of companion who senses when you need a nuzzle, a goofy spin, or a nap in the grass.

Every morning, like clockwork, Asgard begins his Backyard Patrol. With chest puffed out and tail wagging like a banner, he patrols the yard with the pride of a noble knight. He sniffs every flower, chases off imaginary invaders (mostly butterflies), and gives a good-natured bark to the wind.

He’ll stop and stare at a dandelion floating in the breeze like it’s the most fascinating miracle. He teaches us the value of presence, of curiosity, and of finding joy in the small things. And when his patrol is done? He collapses in a warm sunbeam and offers a sigh so content you feel it in your own bones.

Asgard reminds us that wellness doesn’t always look like movement. Sometimes it looks like laying still, eyes half-closed, feeling the world just as it is. He shows us that love isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s quiet companionship and the loyalty of a soul that’s simply there.

Asgard’s Cooling Pup Pops

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 tbsp plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup diced cucumber (hydrating & soothing)
  • 1 tsp local honey

Instructions: Blend and freeze in silicone molds or ice cube trays. Serve as a cooling, allergy-soothing, hydrating treat.

Asgard-approved and made with ingredients that help support hydration, reduce inflammation, and cool overheated pups on long summer days.

🏖️ Soak Up Summer: Vacation or Staycation, Do It Holistically

Whether you’re jetting off to the beach, taking a mountain escape, or setting up camp in your own backyard, summer offers us all a sacred opportunity to slow down and reconnect. And the best part? You don’t need a packed itinerary to make it meaningful.

Staycation with Intention:

  • Create a backyard retreat: Lay out a blanket, add a pitcher of fruit-infused water, play calming music, and enjoy a screen-free afternoon under the sky.
  • Unplugged Sundays: Set one day a week to be technology-light—trade screen time for page-turning, cloud-watching, or barefoot gardening.
  • Local adventures: Explore a park, trail, or botanical garden you’ve never visited before. Nature, even nearby, has a way of resetting our rhythm.
  • Kitchen retreats: Make one meal a day feel like a celebration—use the good dishes, light a candle, serve fresh, seasonal produce.

Vacation with Holistic Ease:

  • Pack wellness essentials: Magnesium, herbal teas, digestive enzymes, sunscreen, essential oils.
  • Hydrate and rest: Prioritize water, sleep, and movement—your body heals faster and feels better with balance.
  • Be present: Take photos, but also take mental snapshots. Pause. Breathe in the view. Speak gratitude aloud.
  • Integrate movement with joy: Morning walks, stretching by the ocean, paddleboarding, or dancing by the firepit count as both fitness and fun.

As we wind down this summer guide, let’s reflect on what the season is truly here to offer us—not more pressure, but more presence.

✨ The Heart of a Holistic Summer

Summer is not just a break from routine—it’s a reset for the body, mind, and spirit. When we allow ourselves to step into the rhythm of the season, we experience the healing power of nature. Sunshine boosts our serotonin levels, hydration keeps our systems balanced, and joyful movement replenishes our energy and grounds our emotions.

In a season where the days are long and the world feels alive, mental health thrives on connection, stillness, play, and nourishment. Whether it’s through cooling foods, intentional breathing, laughter with loved ones, or a walk with your dog at sunset—each act of mindfulness stacks up.

So this summer, let’s:

  • Chase fireflies under a warm sky
  • Eat barefoot on the porch
  • Hydrate like it’s our job
  • Unplug and really look around
  • Nap in a hammock without guilt
  • Say no to stress and yes to spontaneity

Because the healthiest version of you isn’t the one with the perfect schedule or the most checkboxes. It’s the one who chooses joy. Who remembers to drink water, to breathe deeply, to be fully here.

Your Call to Action:

  • Make a hydration goal and track it for one week—notice how you feel.
  • Plan one intentional rest day where you do less and enjoy more.
  • Prepare one holistic meal each week using fresh, water-rich produce.
  • Invite a friend or family member to join you in a summer ritual—walks, tea time, or grounding.

Let this season not just be lived, but deeply felt. Let it refresh, restore, and reconnect you to the beauty of your own vitality.

With sunshine & presence,
